The Iranian film festival honoring women in cinema is named after one of the most respected contemporary female poets of Iran, Parvin Etesami.

Organizers of the Parvin Etesami Film Festival upgraded the event as an international status near the dawn of the new decade, following a high submission of films from around the world to the festival.

Having finished the 9th edition of the event in autumn last year, the festival has a long tradition of highlighting the impact of female filmmakers, actresses and cineastes to the industry.

Further editions of the festival are expected to be staged in Iran in the future, with precise dates to be announced later.

The festival is named after Parvin, aka Rakhshandeh, who was born in March 17th, 1907, in Tabriz.

The prominent poet is said to have started composing poetry when she was eight years old. Safar-e ashk (Journey of a tear) counts among the finest lyrics ever written in Persian.
